A carpet is not furniture

ARTCO has knotted by hand since 1992. The objection was never quality — it was category. Here is the film we made for them, and the argument underneath it.

ARTCO is a maître artisan house that has been making handwoven carpets since 1992. Their problem was not that people thought the work was poor. It was that people thought they already knew what it was.

The objection was category, not quality

A hand-knotted carpet takes months on the loom. Everything that makes it worth its price — the time, the hand, the dye mixed for one piece — is invisible the moment it becomes a photograph of a rug on a floor. Filed under furniture, it is compared on size and price against something a machine made in an afternoon. That comparison is lost before it starts.

A craft object's value is time and hand. Neither one survives a thumb scroll.

So we stopped photographing it on a floor

The film opens on the carpet as a fairway, and plays a shot off it. Thirty-four seconds, 16:9. The point is not the joke. The point is that you cannot tee off on furniture — the frame argues the category before a word is spoken, and it does it in the first second, where the decision is actually made.

That is the whole method: find the sentence the buyer is already saying in their head, and build the opening frame to contradict it. Not to explain the product. To make the existing assumption untenable.

Filmed by hand, versioned by machine

The carpet is real and the capture is real. We film the object, the workshop and the hands, because a model cannot generate a maker who does not exist and no buyer of craft is fooled by one that tries. AI enters after the capture, inside the edit, where it earns its place:

  • One capture day, versioned across formats — 16:9 film, feed cuts, vertical
  • Subtitled and localised into Darija, Arabic, French and English from the same footage
  • Two audiences from one library — a specification cut for architects and procurement, a prestige cut for private buyers
  • Thirty years of finished pieces already in the archive, recut for feed formats with no new production

The archive is the part most craft houses miss. Decades of finished work is an owned asset that has never been cut for a feed. It costs a day of edit, not a day of shooting.

What we are not telling you

We are not publishing a performance number for this film. Not because there is nothing to say, but because we did not agree a measurement with the client before running it, and a figure we produced on our own is a figure you have no reason to believe. When we publish a result it will carry a baseline, a date and the client's approval, or it will not ship.

1.1%

Category median CTR — an industry benchmark, not ARTCO's number

What you can judge instead is the reasoning: whether the objection we named is the real one, and whether the frame we built answers it. That is the thing being bought, and it is visible before you pay for anything.
